Description: Vata- Kapha balancing workshop

Join us for a nourishing weekend immersion that is specifically focused on balancing the Vata- Kapha dosha through a variety of yoga and Ayurveda practices. This enriching event is perfect for anyone who is seeking to find deep peace, companionship with winter, and harmonize the entire body with nature. Throughout the weekend, you will learn how to effectively incorporate Vata- Kapha balancing techniques into your daily routine, and you will leave feeling thoroughly refreshed and revitalized.

The Kapha dosha in Ayurveda, India’s indigenous medical system, is characterized by heavy, slow, cool, oily, smooth, dense, soft, stable, gross, cloudy (sticky) qualities.

Kapha lends structure, solidity, and cohesiveness to all things, and is therefore associated primarily with the earth and water elements. Kapha also embodies the watery energies of love and compassion. This dosha hydrates all cells and systems, lubricates the joints, moisturizes the skin, maintains immunity, and protects the tissues. We see this play out in nature in the form of snow, rain, cold winter days, sinus congestion, the desire for rest this time of year, a craving for warmth and all things ooey gooey indulgent.

Because we are still riding nature’s influences of Vata season, Fall, which is characterized as brittle, quick moving, unstable,  dry, rough, windy, erratic, cool, subtle, and clear. We see this play out in clear nights, windy days, getting a cold, wanting to start a new project, mobilizing ideas, connecting with the mystical energetics of longer, darker nights, and maybe feeling a little untethered.

This immersion will be a special opportunity to look at the intersection of these dosas and consequently the intersection of seasonal qualities and balancing rituals.

Ayurveda is not just a 1 + 1 = 2 science. We would be wildly watering it down by only looking at tangible seasonal recommendations like ‘eat this not that’ and ‘exercise this way not that way.’Ayurveda explores the subtle realm of energy and being…which is where you come in. Just like we can all take the same yoga class and get something different out of it than our neighbor, we all have a different energetic relationship with our environment.

This is what we’ll explore over the weekend. Over a few days, we will move through seasonally aligned physical practices, reflection, and being with community. It’s an invitation to descend into your body, dwell in what you discover, and steep in the subtle realm.

A note: there is nothing in this course that promises to be groundbreaking, transcendent, or overnight transformation- that is not my approach to regulating routines or how nature flows. Together we will seek small, approachable, foundational shifts that speak in whispers. Let’s get quiet enough in our hearts to hear them.

Over the weekend we will move our bodies together in a format called Move to Nourish which is a yoga/pilates/dance/primal movement form. We will also spend time absorbing the basics of this time of year from an Ayurvedic perspective, as well as journaling, and resting together with yoga Nidra. My hope is that you come away from the weekend with a newfound curiosity for how to be well in Winter.
