After graduating with a BA in theater in 2005, I got my first taste of yoga when I was visiting my very bossy aunt in Hawaii. She made me get up every morning and do a 90 minute Hatha practice with her- it was hard, and I hated it! When I left Hawaii a few weeks later, though, I felt different: stronger, taller, and a lot calmer.
Back home in New York, I discovered Vinyasa at a local studio and realized that yoga could be like a spiritually transformative dance.
Beyond the obvious physical benefits, it changed my life by helping me regulate my emotions and find freedom from outside pressures.
I did my first teacher training in 2010 at Sonic Yoga in NYC and I've been teaching for a living ever since! Additional trainings since then include biomechanics, Reiki, Yoga Nidra, Thai Partner Yoga, etc, but my most valuable education was to take extensive post-graduate classes in psychology and anatomy/physiology, and then to shadow an occupational therapist for 100 hours, which taught me how to safely offer self-care to a spectrum of special populations.
I love guiding a roomful of people through breath, movement, and their imaginations. These days I also love to guide other yoga teachers in honing their craft. Watching both students and teachers alike blossom into new versions of themselves is the most fulfilling work I could imagine!
In my free time, I love to write fiction, canoe in the Adirondacks, and hike with my husband and daughter. If you can't find me, I'm probably hiding out in my Jeep and singing awkward 80s rock ballads.
