I have been practicing yoga for about 9 years and teaching for about half of that. I was originally pursuing a career in Speech Language Pathology and while in grad school my mental health really suffered. Yoga was one of the few things that helped to anchor me during that time. I found that my passion for helping others, when filtered through the demands of traditional academia, lead me to burnout. The yoga studio I practiced with at the time, in contrast, exemplified facilitating peoples’ growth and development in a way where teachers' mental and physical health was still honored. The way I saw those teachers helping people felt sustainable because they were supported by community and their own practices. They helped put me on a path to liberation and I wanted to help others do the same. I dropped out of grad school and after moving to Colorado and taking my 200 hour YTT at Amana Yoga (now Yoga Pearl) I eventually started teaching full time. Since then I have taken multiple trainings in Yin and Restorative Yoga, Aerial Yoga, Adaptive Yoga, and am currently completing my 300 hour YTT. When I’m not teaching I mostly keep myself busy creatively- doing fiber arts, painting, dancing, acting, and making music. I also enjoy time in nature, or at home with my loved ones and kitties. Over the past couple of years I have had some health issues that have reduced my capacity to teach as many asana classes as I used to and have reshaped my own physical practice in many ways. It has been hard but it has also taught me a lot and reaffirmed my connection to Yoga's other limbs. I strive to continue to deepen my own practice and understanding of Yoga from its roots, both for myself and so that I can better serve my students.
